Shocking Video Reveals Moment Police Get Knifed in Ambush

Both Senior Officers Instants Prior to the Assailant Got Stunned

A senior officer that leaped to the help of a colleague who was ambushed by a knife attacker has been awarded the King's Commendation for Courage.

Sgt Tim Ansell struggled against 27-year-old Jacob Brown after he pressed a blade to the neck of his partner Sgt Marc Foster.

Brown began the violence as the policemen and their colleague, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a motorist after a traffic accident in Whalley Range in July 2023.

Brown stabbed and slashed both Sergeant Ansell and Sergeant Foster before Police Constable Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a electric weapon.

"Officer stabbed," PC Wolstencroft was heard to say over his communication device.

Officer-mounted and dashcam recording released by the police department showed Brown, wearing in dark clothing with a head covered, run up to Sergeant Foster from the rear with a knife pointed forward.

He struck the officer who stumbled and went down to the pavement, after which Sergeant Ansell intervened and struggled to restrain him to the ground despite being multiple times hit with the weapon.

Police Constable Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and waited for a safe opportunity, concluding the fight to an conclusion.

Sgt Ansell can be heard to say: "I need help on my neck here, I got knifed in the throat."

Sgt Ansell suffered multiple lacerations to his neck and more wounds to his limbs and body, while Sgt Foster experienced slash wounds.

The department reported Sergeant Foster used his bare hands to stem his colleague's blood loss before medical personnel came.

This most recent honor arrives after the three officers were granted organizational Bravery Awards in late 2023 and the prestigious bravery honor from the local officer association in early 2024.

They additionally received a Area Courage Honor in mid-2024.

"The efforts of all three officers ultimately saved themselves and meant no civilians experienced any wounds."

Brown was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order in early 2024, as stated by the department.
